The Business

Pricingnet was founded in early 2004.  Through consulting engagements with industrial distributors the need for a wholesale only trading community was identified.

It became clear that distributors have a large number of items that are essentially dead-stock.  While the products are new and in their original, un-opened packaging, local demand has diminished to the point where these items are either no longer saleable or represent many years of existing demand within the sales territory.

Frequently, these items are still in demand in another geography and a local distributor can easily sell these products during the normal course of business.

Before Pricingnet, the items would sit in the warehouse, accumulating overhead cost, until they were finally liquidated at pennies-on-the-dollar.  Now, due to the communication provided by Pricingnet they can be sold to another distributor for close to their original value.

The acquiring distributor gets new product at below wholesale prices and the selling distributor gets to sell their excess stock at close to their original cost.

This allows smaller distributors to function more like a large multi-branched distributor by moving stock from one geography to the other.

It also allows larger distributors to leverage their buying power and essentially function as a master distributor.

The Team

The Pricingnet Team consists of experienced technology, marketing and sales professionals spanning 4 continents.  Through the power of the Internet, all of these resources have come together to build and operate Pricingnet, The World's Largest Wholesale Only Exchange.

About the Founder

David Jacobs has spent the past 10 years working for high technology companies, creating products which allow customers to better understand and manage their business operations. While working at companies such as Siebel Systems, Oracle Corporation and SUSE Linux, David became aware of the enormous benefits in utilizing information technology to solve complex business problems. He also realized, that the effective utilization of technology to solve business problems is complex and sometimes expensive.

David envisioned a high quality software application, delivered over the Internet, as a solution to the complexity and cost issues.  By utilizing the Internet as a software deployment platform and spreading the costs across thousands of users, even the smallest potential customer can realize the benefits of advanced technology.

Through consulting engagements with industrial distributors and his work in creating and running direct sales forces, David realized that in many markets, dead inventory constitutes a considerable asset with virtually no efficient means of conversion back to cash. The Pricingnet service was created to publish wholesale dead inventory items and allow wholesalers the tools needed to more effectively locate and negotiate the sale of these items.

David is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (BA in Economics, Minor in Computer Science - 1990) and New York University (MBA in Finance - 1996).
